Sustainability Policy

Lyra Studios’ Method For Eliminating Emissions

Measure, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Reclaim, Rent, Offset, Label and Communicate.

Measure: we use our preferred sustainability auditing partner to calculate the total scope of 1, 2 and 3 carbon emitted at an event. We offset the emissions calculated through their offsetting projects.

Reduce: by being conscious of the choices we make and their effects on the environment, we can reduce our carbon footprint and cut back on the amount of waste we produce.

Reuse: we reuse materials from past brand activations, experiences and in the office instead of throwing them away. If we don’t have use for the materials, we give them to charity.

Repair: any damaged items are repaired in-house or sent to our trusted suppliers to lengthen their life span.

Reclaim: we use salvaged materials when building sets for our brand activations, festival builds, and events.

Rent: if we don’t have a specific product in stock, we prefer to rent the desired product rather than buy it outright. This provides us access to the highest quality products while minimising our environmental impact.

Offset: once we have exhausted all the methods above, any residual waste and carbon emissions are offset.

Label: signage is useful in building sustainable visibility and increasing employee/attendee awareness of the issues. Using signage, we create distinctive and memorable instructions to increase positive behaviour patterns.

Communicate: we are environmental evangelists who help keep sustainability at the forefront of our minds and encourage others to make more sustainable choices.

Specific Company Actions

Offsetting:  We currently fund a project planting 64 trees a month in Madagascar, with the help of Ecologi, check out our company page https://ecologi.com/lyrastudios. This compensates for our workforce’s carbon footprint. They only buy carbon credits that meet industry-leading carbon standards – primarily the Gold Standard https://www.goldstandard.org/ . Please see the basic criteria for an approved project at both standards: https://carbonco.com.au/what-are-vcs-and-the-gold-standard/.

For our events, we use our preferred sustainability auditing partner and offset the emissions through their projects.

Renewable energy: Octopus Energy provides us with carbon-neutral gas and renewable electricity for our office. Find out how by following the link https://octopus.energy/green/

0 Waste to Landfill: we use Grundon’s to ensure all waste streams are tracked to their destination to ensure 0 waste goes to landfill. We also separate different kinds of waste to make it easier to treat each type of waste most effectively. Find out more about Grundon’s 0 waste to landfill pledge: https://www.grundon.com/facilities/energy-from-waste/.

Clear signage: we provide clear signage on all waste streams to avoid contamination, both at events and in the office. Our signage encourages lights/taps off and other energy-saving measures.

Efficiency: we reduce water heater temperatures and repair leaks. Have installed low-flow aerated taps to reduce the amount of water used. We power down equipment when not in use. Adjust the heat and air conditioner at night, during weekends and holidays. All our lights are LEDs and we use natural light as much as possible.

Paperless: we have gone paperless in the office. We use cloud storage and take electronic minutes from meetings.

Travel: Our small team cycles or takes the tube to and from the office. We minimise business travel through web conferencing, email, and other low-emission communications.

Food: we encourage plant-based food consumption.

Near sourcing: we use vendors close to our office or events. This reduces travel emissions. We require resources to function, e.g., office supplies, food and live event equipment. Transporting these resources to our door uses energy and creates emissions - near sourcing saves us energy, time, and money.

Cloud storage: We use the Microsoft 365 Suite. Although imperfect, these services eliminate reliance on paper and streamline daily operations. It also reduces the need for energy-hogging in-house computers and servers.

Other companies: we collaborate with other sustainable-minded companies to produce events, catering/beverage companies, office goods suppliers, cleaning (eco-products) and waste management.

Eco Zip Ties: we use reusable velcro ties or reusable zip ties.

We are always looking for new, innovative, and useful techniques to reduce our carbon footprint, so please reach out if you have any tips!
